Drove a few hours this morning to get into the Austrian Alps!! It was sehr SEHR schoene (very very pretty for the non-Germans out there). Everything was so quaint: the mountains with snow, the fields, the little town of Hopfgarten in the val
ley, the cows with the bells around their necks, etc. Wendy, Kellie, Erin and I took a gondola up the mountain and had a picnic lunch and schnapps. Nobody told us that Austrian schnapps isn't fruity and buttery and sweet like schnapps in Australia and the US; it burned like moonshine and tasted like old people!! Many, many funny videos ensued of people making faces and spitting out schnapps.
After lunch Kellie and I continued up the mountain to a height of 1500-something meters above sea level which was high enough for us to have our ears pop while we were on a chairlift! The guy who was operating it also neglected to tell us how to put the safety bar down so we went up a mountain quite dangerously,
but we figured it out. The view was amazing. (I know I use the word "amazing" a lot but words really cannot describe the things I have seen here.) Anyway, at the top we were at the same level as the clouds and we could see across the alps!
I also electrocuted myself on a fence trying to take a picture of cute little alpine goats, but enough about that. :P
