October 3 - Venezia

Venice is so pretty/crowdeed/full of tourists! We started the day with a ferry ride from our bumblefuck campsite to the actual island of Venice and Piazza de San Marco (St. Mark's Plaza). This is where they filmed the Bourne Identity with the traitor's columns! Then we went to the Doge's (Mayor's) Palace and saw all the gold roofs in every single freaking room, the courtoom and senate room and then the prison with the bridge of sighs. (It's called that because prisoners would walk over it and take one look at Venice before serving their sentences and then they would sigh because they were sad.) It was fabbo.

Then we took the waterbus (like a real bus but on water!) out to the Island of Murano where Venetian glass is made and I got some pieces for MUCH cheaper than what it costs on actual Venice. We took a water taxi (read: expensive boat with strange man driving 5 girls who didn't speak Italian) back to the other side of Venice and wandered around in the streets of ghetto Venice eating Italian pastries and gelati. The streets are really narrow with little bridges over the canals. We got to Ponte di Rialto (big bridge with markets on it) and checked out their wares. You get a really good view of the city from there because the Ponte goes over the main canal. Then we took another waterbus around Canal Grande, but then I had to wash stupid dishes at the campsite so I had to go back but it wasn't too bad. It was pretty.
