October 8 - Lauterbrunnen
Went up the Alps today. We had to take two cog trains up the mountain (through tunnels and stuff) to get there. It was pretty cold; Michigan had prepared me for the snow but some people showed up in T-shirts and shorts and high heels! Silly Australians. The Jungfrau mountain range (where we were) was amazing - we got up in the morning when the sun was hitting the snow on the mountains and everything was really picturesque. There was an ice palace with sculptures and stuff and then we went to the first viewing platform out in the snow. It was rather icy and I was going snowblind so I had to buy more sunnies. We also found these weird blackbirds and Andrea and I decided to feed them, Then we came across these really cute sled dogs and played with them for a while. Some of the Canadians from the other group went sledding down the hills. Andrea and I joined them but we didn't have any sleds so we slid down on our maps of Interlaken and got really wet bums and snow in our pants! It was worth it though; now I can say that I rolled down the Alps. :)
After that we made our way back down the mountain but on the way back the train had to stop a few times to let another train going up the mountain pass. Sarah and I were sitting across from a Swiss family whose 6-year-old kept talking to me (in Swiss German, never mind that I could barely understand what he was saying) and his mum would translate and stuff, but basically his name was Philip and he was 6 and he had 3 donkeys and 7 rabbits at his house in Bern and he told me what their names were but I forgot. I told him I had a rabbit too and showed him Boris, so now Boris has a new friend in Switzerland who said that Boris and I could stay with him if we wanted!
