Woke up balls early to go to Auschwitz, but Erin forgot to tell us about daylight saving so we were all an hour early for nothing!!! Boo.
But anyway, Auschwitz and Birkenau were really worth going to - I woudln't say that I enjoyed it, but I was really glad I went. There was one room in the the Auschwitz barracks where they had all the hair that was cut from the heads of people who had been kill

ed in the gas chambers and whatnot and they would use it to spin into thread and use it for other things... that was actually really freaky. The whole place felt really heavy and it was weird because obviously I have no Jewish or Polish or gypsy heritage or anything, but in a way I could still relate. Our guide was also really good there and really gave us specifics about the expereinces in the extermination camps. The di

sturbing thing is that if I was there at that time, I would probably have been the first (of all the people in our group) to get selected for the gas chambers - I am not particularly big or strong or male and I am an intellectual, a socialist and a lawyer and not white and blonde and blue eyed... so yeah.
Afterwards was lunch, but I waited a while because I felt wrong eating KFC outside a concentration camp. We drove all day to the hostel but it was worth it - this is the nicest one we have been to yet. It had a pool and laundry and bar/restaurant and free internet and ensuites! Fabbo!
